TRANS-TECH PARTICIPATES IN ERIE COUNTY TECHNICAL SCHOOL

ERIE, Pa. - Trans-Tech's LED supervisor, Cheryl Smith, recently participated in Erie County Technical School's DACUM (Developing a Curriculum) workshop for its electronics program, a process that allows employees and supervisors in the Erie and surrounding areas to share thoughts and ideas about what should be included in the school's curriculum.

The goal of this process is to develop a program that is most relevant to the needs of the electronics industry.

"This workshop gave our company an amazing opportunity to share the skills we find most valuable when looking for an electronics technician, and allows the school to incorporate those real-world ideas into their electronics program," said Cheryl. "It gives graduates of the program a definite advantage, since they are learning the most current, up-to-date aspects of our trade."

Jan Kennerknecht, supervisor of instructional support services at ECTS says that the program will enhance the current ECTS electronic program, benefitting current students as they prepare for future employment in Erie County's electronics business.

"A research-based curriculum development process provides local electronics technicians and supervisors the opportunity to share ideas about what should be taught in the ECTS electronics program," noted Jan. "With the assistance of a trained facilitator, panel members build a list of necessary competencies, worker behaviors, tools and equipment, worker certifications, and post-secondary possibilities."

More than a dozen panel members were included in the workshop, including employees from Crawford County Career and Technical Center, Cristal Global, Eaton Corporation, Erie County Technical School, Erie Institute of Technology, Gannon University, Urick Foundry and the Warren County Career Center.
